How to Be More Productive in 3 Easy Steps

Tomas Keenan • Aug 14, 2020

Let’s face it, we’re all looking for ways to be more productive. In fact, there are entire industries designed around teaching people how to be more productive. You can Google, “how to be more productive,” and find literally millions of articles and websites geared toward answering this question for you, and some of those answers a pretty darn complicated. But I’ve discovered, through my own process, that it doesn’t have to be complicated at all. I’ve put together a list of the 3 things I do daily to up my productivity, and I’m sharing those here with you today.

This list won’t just help you in your business, though. It will apply to your entire life. Because the truth is, as a small business owner, there isn’t a whole lot of separation between your personal life and your business. What goes on in your personal life is going to affect your business and vice versa.

  1. FOLLOW A MORNING ROUTINE – I can’t stress this one enough. The way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. I’m not just saying that, either. I’m living proof that this is true. Take time in the morning to connect with you. Read, exercise, meditate. Drink some coffee, have breakfast, check in with your calendar to see what you have going on that day, and take the time to get into the right mindset to tackle what you have coming up in both your business and personal life. I would highly recommend NOT getting on your phone first thing. And DEFINITELY don’t get on social media until you’ve completed your entire morning routine. It is imperative that you, as a business owner, are in the right headspace to deal with whatever the day is going to throw at you, and jumping first thing into emails or social media is NOT the way to do that. Take that quiet morning time to get grounded and prepared for the rest of the day, I promise you won’t regret it.
  2. DELEGATE – I hate to break it to you, but no matter how productive you become, you can’t do it all yourself. As a business owner, a leader, a partner, a father, etc. there’s just no possible way you can be all the places and do all the things that are required of you. So you need to learn to delegate. I know, it can be hard to let go of the control, but if you want to be the most productive you can possibly be, and still manage to get everything done on your list every day, you need to allow other people, people you have hired and who you trust to get the job done, to help you. Yes, there are going to be certain things that only you can do, and those things should take priority, but there are plenty of other things that can be passed on to someone else.
  3. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS DAILY – This keeps them fresh in your head and helps you stay focused. It’s easy to lose track of your goals when you are busy with the day-to-day running of your business and your life. And getting off track means that it’s going to take you that much longer to reach those goals. If you write them down every day, they stay front-and-center and you will be more likely to make decisions on a daily basis to move you closer to those goals, instead of letting yourself get distracted by what’s going on around you.

So there you have it. These are the 3 things I do daily to keep me moving forward toward my goals, for both my business and my personal life, and I’m here to tell you they work. That doesn’t mean that it’s always easy, or that things don’t get in the way and trip you up, but if you focus on doing these three things daily, I guarantee you you will become more productive in the long run.
